Ladies and Gentlemen... Zany Brainy Super Cool Non-Engineer Berhanu Nega

A most welcome respite from the painfully predictable droning of soon-to-depart-kicking-and-screaming despot and Mengistu Haile Mariam's new neighbor-- Ato Meles, and his sidekick, whackjob hack Darth Bereket.

Proving that all economists are not not monumental geeks, may we present, Ato Dr. Berhanu Nega.

For those of you in the States, happy Fourth of July.

Hi People of Wonkiville,

Heading home, stuck at an airport; nothing gives a soothing relief other than Wonki's blog.

A while ago, when nobody was watching (I'm sure the long time residents of Wonkiville can attest to that), our own queen Etege Wonkitu, snuck in our constitution (yes, Wonkiville is a nation too) an article that in part reads "...any ET politician who needs our blessing should not be over the age of 40... those who are 40 and older need to write an essay about thoughts that crossed thier minds since 1974 in 1000 words or 5 pages whichever is less..."

The "...super cool non-engineer..." wrote this essay:

It's way over the limit but that's how he got the endorsement - a little insiders' info from the queen's palace. So, by virtue of power vested in me by Etege Wonkitu, I know she is gonna say "...it's my damn blog and I ain't giving no power to nobody.." but who cares really ;-), I hereby declare July 4 as Berhanu Nega day in all the kebele, keftegna, ketena, woreda, awraja, kiflehager, kilil - pick the term you understand most - of Wonkiville --- he's MONEY!!

Selam Wonke,
I want u to work on the interview Mr Meles gave to the BBC today. It is a must hear interview specially if u compare it with Mele's interview to the Ethiopian News Agency on friday last week. I am really surprised about the tough questions the BBC journalist presented to Meles. As ethiomedia put it precisely Meles was ' grilled'. U could either find the interview on ethiomedia.com or ethiopianreview.com.
Wonke,i wish u and ur family melkam gize and keep on writing yene ehet.

Must you remind us of our inadequacy by inviting us to stream anything. Anchiyewa, yegna internet eko telemino/be-gubo new yemimetaw. Just to load a text page!

In any case, Dr Berhanu Nega seems like a decent guy from what I've seen. I don't know how he will survive with the other brutal political animals out there.

belu dehna walu. Abuara and Diesel Chis is calling me.

More than grilled, utterly humiliated, lectured and scolded like a schoolboy begging for his undeserved stipend.

Meles being our Prime Minister, we as Ethiopians were also humiliated, deservedly so, having worked hard over the last few decades to push our country firmly into the gutter.

Wonk-seferetegnoch,

finally! an ethiopian politician who actually uttered the words "i don't know. i don't want to lie to you." i had to replay that part of the video a couple of times because it was so new to me.

Non Engineer Berhanu Nega... anbessa, "sexy in a woody allen way"... I like him. very much.

Wonqqiye, you are one smart chickie... was it by design or by accident, alawQim. but you pre empted Engineer Hailu's hallow words on BBC by putting Berhanu in front of us, giving us hope that the opposition has thinkers in it, not just 70 year olds who can't inspire the youth.

how old is non engineer berhanu? is he over 40? 'cause in Wonq-terra he is ineligible for leadership. maybe that policy needs review.

now i'll go watch some woody allen.

i don't know how it happened, but all of a sudden i am inspired to follow ethiopian politics. giving hope to the jaded, Wonkki, might just be your greatest achievement yet. no, they can't take my "EthiyoPPiyaye" away from me..." wezeterfe.

akbarish,

WSM.

Masinqo,

You took the words right out of my mouth and I want them back, ke zirzir gar.

If you thought the London speech was great, then watch the one in Sweden... especially the part about Ato Lidetu and tolerating dissent. And about the moral obligation of leaders... yes, he went dere! Leaders have to have morals! Who does he think he is?
Non Engineer Brhanu

I like him too.

Woyane AGITPROP (Agitation and Propaganda)has extended its presence. Now it is trying to invade even Blogs.
WSM is an indication of things to come from Woyanne- massive disinformation campaign in cyberspace..

I feel sad when I think of the leeches anchored on Ethiopia. The major effort of the Government is production and dissemination of pathological lies. What a strange neo stalinist country!.

Anonymous of Neo-Stalinist fame,

I am sure i am joined by most of Wonkville when I say, "huh?"

Woaah... i am just getting used to being a newbie politico, i jumped to being a Ihadig cadre? I couldn't disseminate ice to an eskimo lenegeroo, but I appreciate the promo.

And then I got it! I had said that engineer Hailu's interview sucked the big one. a-ha!

Back to my Stalinist ways. We are busy people these days.

Anonymous of 5:26AM and WSM!

Endayyy ere begelagay, be lijochachin!! My dear Anony, first of all, how on earth does it make one a "woyane" for telling the truth about Hailu Shawel's interview? For me, saying it sucked is putting it mildly! It made me sick to my stomach - you know why? Because, when Meles was on the hot seat, for the first time ever in his 14+ years of lies, he run short of words because he was asked mainly about his indefenisible and malicious deeds. On the other hand, almost every single question thrown at Hailu was more than defensible, and in fact, he could have put the Brit on the defensive about what the west has been saying/doing. He missed the opportunity, and that's why people in Wonkiville are down.

It's July 8, 7:15 a.m. EST, and I just spoke to my sister in Addis - guess what? The government media is in full swing about what Hailu has said with lots and lots of exaggeration. He sure gave a boat load of ammunition for the windbag Bereket and his cronies.
I go as far as saying it's our own Queen Wonki who let us down in a way. You remember, she had to put Hailu Shawel on timeout with her son a while back? He should have still been on timeout and am sure we could have done much better with our boy Berhanu -- I feel like crying already - call me a sissy but in light of what's going on in the "world", the world being where 'civilized white people live' like London, nobody is gonna give a rat's ass to my peeps.
Wonki, where are you when we need you most?!! I hope you're okay!

A quick question: Is Dr Berhanu a foreigner? And when he and his team take power, how is he going to convey his words to the Ethiopian people? Engriizeeegna is what I mostly heard in the few minutes that I went shuuukikik...

Hmmmm... this could be a bit of a damper- but just consider this:
In our nation that prides itself on never having been under any ferenj imperialists' greedy paws (The Italians don't count though they gassed 300,000 of us) there are some who are wishing we were being colonised right now... Any rule, be it ferenj or whatever colonisation is better than Woyane rule- that's how far the EPRDF has pushed our proud and independent people...
